How to make the crochet top step by step
Crochet the long pieces
We will start by crocheting the 6 elongated pieces of circles. Here is the diagram for the smaller pieces, formed by 5 circles, which will create the bib area and the back.

Round 0. Chain 30 sts
Round 1. In the 4th chain from the hook, 6 dc, skip 2, 1 sl-st, skip 2, *7 dc into the same stitch, skip 2, 1 sl-st* repeat from *to* until end. Turn your work 180 degrees. Skip 2, *7 dc into the same stitch, skip 2, 1 sl-st* repeat from *to* until end.
Round 2. ch 1, 1 sc, ch 4, skip 1, * 1 sc, 1 sl-st, 1 sc, ch 3, skip 4*, repeat from *to* 3 times more, 1 sc, 1 sl-st, 1 sc, ch 4, 1 sc, 1 sl-st, 1 sc, ch 4, repeat from *to* 4 times more, 1 sc, 1 sl-st, 1 sc, ch 4, 1 sc, 1 sl-st.

You must crochet 2 equal pieces of 5 circles each.
To form your summer crochet top, you will also need 4 longer pieces, composed of 21 circles for the straps and 24 circles for the bottom area of the top. You will need to work in the same way as described, but including more repeats of the same sequence.
To make the 2 pieces of the suspenders, that is, 21 circles, chain 126 stitches and crochet following the same instructions as for the small piece.
To make the 2 pieces of the hem, composed of 24 circles, chain of 144 stitches.

Crochet the Granny Squares
Once we have our elongated pieces ready, we will crochet the granny squares following the diagram below.

Round 0. Chain 3 sts and join the first and the last stitch with a sl-st to form a circle.
Round 1. ch 3, 15 dc into the circle, 1 sl-st. (16 sts)
Round 2. ch 3, *2 dc into the same st, 1 dc*, repeat from *to* until end, 1 sl-st (24 sts)

Crochet 4 Granny squares exactly the same, one for the front, one for the back and one for each side. These squares should measure approximately 16 x 16 cm once blocked.

Join all the pieces of the Crochet Top
Now that we have all the pieces ready to form the Nazarí Crochet Top, it is time to join them together.
To make this join, I have chosen to face the right sides of the pieces, and on the wrong side crochet sl-st through the front loop only. In the video of the garment, you can also see this process.
You can also join the pieces using your tapestry needle or whatever method you are most comfortable with.
This is the “puzzle” that we must compose to form our crochet top:

First, join the small 5-circle pieces, one to the back granny and the other to the front granny.

Next, continue joining these new pieces you have formed to the suspenders (elongated pieces of 21 circles).

Fold the shoulders and sew the granny squares to the sides.

Take the two elongated pieces (24 circles) and join them lengthwise. Once this union is finished, continue joining upwards to form a circle with them.

Join the lower part with the upper part of the crochet top.

Finishing touches
Pulish armoles and neckline
To end our top, we will polish the armhole area to give

Insert your hook just below the underarm area (top center of side granny square) and work in sl-st until you only have 3 stitches left to reach the corner. Work 1 hdc, yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pass through the st (you will have two loops on your needle), yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pass through the st (you will have three loops on your needle), yarn over, insert your hook into the corner, yarn over and pass through the st (you will have four loops on your needle), yarn over, insert your hook into the first stitch of the granny, yarn over and pass through the st (you will have five loops on your needle), yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pass through the st (you will have six loops on your needle), yarn over and pass through the 6 loops. 1 hdc to end the corner.

Continue crocheting in sl-st until you reach the next corner and work in the same way. You can see this process in the video.

Once you have finished polishing both armholes, repeat the same process on the neckline area.
Finish the hem
To finish the lower part of the crochet top, crochet a first row in Double crochet and a second row in Picot stitch.
To crochet the picot stitch you must work 3 single crochet, ch 3, 1 sl-st at the base of the chain, then repeat the sequence until the end of the round.
Finally, weave in the loose ends and that’s it!

Do you want to make your NAZARÍ Crochet Top in a larger size?
Here are some tips on how to size up your top and make it completely tailored to you!
Crochet a few more rows in Double Crochet only on the sides of the granny squares, as shown in the picture.
You will also have to modify the number of circles on the bottom edges to adapt them to the new measurements of the top’s body.
- To get a CHEST CONTOUR OF 98 cm. You must crochet 1 more row on the sides of the granny squares, this way you will give approximately 8 cm extra width to the garment, as each row of double crochet adds 1 cm to the garment. Make the 2 pieces of the bottom with 27 circles, that is, you should start with a chain of 162 stitches.
- To get a CHEST CONTOUR OF 106 cm. You must crochet 2 more rows on the sides of the granny squares, this way you will give approximately 16 cm extra width to the garment. Make the 2 pieces of the bottom with 29 circles, that is, you should start with a chain of 174 stitches.
