How to make the STRIPY Crochet Jacket – Size 3-4 years –
Crochet the left sleeve
We will begin our STRIPY jacket by chaining the stitches to crochet the left sleeve.
Chain 72 stitches and crochet 71 (sl-st)TBL (Slip stitch through back loop only).
Work in (sl-st)TBL for 6 rows in total. Remember to chain one each time you turn the work.

Change the yarn to white and work 1 row in (sl-st)TBL.
In the next row, ch 2, *15 dc, ch 1, skip 1 stitch*, repeat from *to* until the end of the row ending with 15 dc.

Change the color to beige and work 1 row in (sl-st)TFL (Slip stitch through front loop only). Crochet 5 more rows in (sl-st)TBL in beige and change the color to white.
The pattern is composed of 8 rows, 6 color and 2 white, which we will work as follows:
Row 1. Color. ch1, (sl-st)TFL all the sts.
Rows 2-6. Color. ch1, (sl-st)TBL all the sts.
Row 7. White. ch1, (sl-st)TBL all the sts.
Row 8. White. ch2, 15 dc, ch1, skip 1 sts*, repeat from *to* until the end of the row.
Just keep in mind that in the next row you have to repeat row 8, you have to alternate the openwork: ch2, 7 dc, ch1, skip 1 stitch, 15 dc, ch 1, skip 1 stitch, repeat from *to* until the end of the row.

Continue crocheting the 71 stitches of the left sleeve, alternating the 8 rows that make up the pattern to complete 4 stripes of color. Work 3 rows of the following color stripe before increasing on both sides to form the back and left front.
Increase for left front and back
At the end of the third row of beige, chain 49 sts. Turn the work and work 48 (sl-st)TBL inside the chain, 71 (sl-st)TBL at the base of the sleeve and chain 41 sts to form the front.

Turn the work and crochet 159 (sl-st)TBL.
Continue crocheting following the pattern until you have formed 3 more colored stripes.

Knit the left front
To shape the neck area of the left front, we are going to work decreases.
To do this, using the white yarn, crochet 69 (sl-st)TBL, turn your work, ch2, dec and continue working in double crochet, making the openwork where needed.
Continue working 1 decrease in the wrong side rows each time you reach the neckline until you have 60 sts. Work the last beige stripe without decreasing and cut the yarn.

If you prefer to know precisely where each stitch and color change goes, without having to do calculations, remember that you have at your disposal the downloadable and printable PDF pattern in the tutorial size for only 2,99€ or in any of the other available sizes for 3,99€. In it, you will find all the detailed row-by-row and stitch-by-stitch instructions and a complete diagram of the jacket, so you won’t miss a single detail! Click here to get it or at the following link
Advantages of the PDF pattern
You can download and consult it whenever you need it without depending on the internet connection.
You can print it to have it always at your side while crocheting and make notes, track marks, etc.
You will have all the detailed indications, row by row and stitch by stitch, so you will know where each increase goes, where to place an openwork stitch, etc., without having to bother to do the counting yourself.
You will have a graphic guide of the pattern. A diagram where you will see in a very visual way the shape of the garment, the layout of the stitches, the rows, the stitch changes, etc.
You will contribute to maintaining this blog, so we can continue to spend time together 😉.
Work the back
We will continue forming the back of the Stripy crochet jacket.
Skip 11 stitches from the neckline area and, with the white yarn, crochet (sl-st)TBL to the end of the row.

Crochet following the diagram for 6 more color stripes and finish with a white openwork stripe. It is very important that you end with the strand placed where the image shows.

Crochet the right front
At this point, we are going to put aside for a moment our main work and crochet a new piece, which, once finished, we will join to the crochet jacket.
Using the pink color, chain 61 sts and work in (sl-st)TBL 6 rows.

From now on, we will work 1 increase on every wrong side row every time we reach the neckline until we have 69 stitches.
To increase when working in (sl-st)TBL, chain 2 stitches at the beginning of the row (instead of the usual chain 1 ) and work from the second stitch normally.
Once you have 69 stitches, change the color to pink and work 69 (sl-st)TFL. At the end of the row, chain 11 stitches. Continue crocheting in (sl-st)TFL the stitches of the main work to join both pieces.

Knit the right front and back
Crochet in the pattern to complete 3 more stripes of color. Once you are working again with the pink color, crochet only 3 rows before closing the stitches to form the right sleeve.

Crochet the right sleeve
In row 4 in pink, crochet 119 (sl-st)TBL, turn the work and work 71 (sl-st)TBL. From now on, we will work only on these 71 stitches to form the rest of the sleeve.
Complete 4 color stripes for the right sleeve and cut your yarn.

Sew sleeves and sides
Use a thread of the same color as the side stripes. Sew under the sleeves and sides, leaving an opening of approximately 3 cm.

Crochet the cuffs, hem and collar
Although our Stripy jacket is already in shape, the cuffs, hem and collar still need to be polished to improve its finish.
Cuffs ribbing

Chain 9 stitches and:
- turn your work and crochet 8 (sl-st)TBL
- work 2 (sl-st)TBL at the base of the sleeve
- turn your work and crochet 8 (sl-st)TBL, chain 1.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 until you have no stitches left at the base and sew the two ends together.
If you find that the elastic is too tight at the sleeves, bottom and neck, try alternating in STEP 2, 2 (sl-st)TBL at the base of the sleeve and only 1 (sl-st)TBL next time.
You can watch this video to learn how to make a crochet ribbing. Keep in mind that this time, instead of working it in single crochet through back loop, we will work in slip stitch through back loop.

Hem ribbing
To crochet the ribbing of the bottom hem, you must start working from the left front, passing through the back to finish at the right front.
When you reach the side seams, where we left the side openings, you must crochet in slip stitch until you reach the join, turn the piece and continue crocheting the side. Once you have worked the side, chain 9 stitches and continue crocheting the ribbing.

Collar ribbing
To crochet the neckline ribbing, start on the left side and finish on the right side.
Just like the cuffs and hem, if you find that the neck is too closed or too open, try crocheting more or less stitches. Depending on the number of stitches you pick up, you will get one result or another.

Crochet the front closing
Once you have finished crocheting the neckline stitches, do not cut the yarn, we will continue working the right front stitches to form the closing placket.
Work in (sl-st)TBL from the collar down to the bottom of the crochet jacket. Once you have reached the last stitch of the hem, turn your work and work 5 more rows in (sl-st)TBL. At the end, cut the yarn.
To form the button placket on the other side, pick up a new strand and work 2 rows in (sl-st)TBL starting from the hem area.
In row 3 we will open the buttonholes of our crochet jacket as follows:
Row 3. ch 1, 2 (sl-st)TBL , *ch 2, skip 2 sts, 12 (sl-st)TBL* repeat from *to* until you have 4 sts left, ch 2, skip 2 sts, 2 (sl-st)TBL.

As you can see, by the choice of colors, materials and the length of the sleeves, the Crochet Striped Jacket is mainly a spring-summer garment. Even so, if you prefer, you can crochet this same pattern using wool and working some more rows in the sleeves to get a long sleeve jacket that you can also enjoy in winter. To crochet this jacket with other fibers, you must take into account the gauge and yardage when choosing the materials.
You can also make this garment using only one color, or combining two colors, as I always say, the limit is your imagination!
